Pluto, In Greek cosmogony, was known as god Hades, the son of Cronus and Rhea. And it was the god of Hell, one of the three realms of existence, and his brothers were Zeus and Poseidon who ruled the “Sky” and “Seas” respectively. The central theme of his mythology revolves around the abduction of Persephone to become his wife and queen over the underworld. Most often he was invoked as Pluto (the Wealthy God), alluding to the immeasurable riches hidden in the centers of the earth.
Astrologically speaking, as the last planet in our Solar System, Pluto (rules the sign of Scorpion) has represented many things: transformation, end of cycles, death & rebirth, the unseen word, the unconscious, the Collective Shadow, Higher Consciousness – God’s consciousness. Pluto was discovered in 1930 when it was just at 18 degrees Cancer. This also means that no person alive today has ever experienced before Pluto in the zodiac signs Aquarius through Gemini. This is important, because in Mundane Astrology it’s assumed that new celestial bodies are discovered or found when humanity has crossed a certain threshold of consciousness.
On March 23rd, 2023 Pluto enters Aquarius for a 3 months trailer to “test the waters” then from January 24, 2024 it will mostly stay in Aquarius for the next 20 years. Because of its highly elliptical orbit, the time Pluto is transiting a sign differs: when transiting Scorpio, Pluto was there for 11 years, then Sagittarius for 13 years and last one in Capricorn for around 15 years. When transiting Pluto first enters a new sign of the zodiac, there are often striking historical events associated with that energy. For example, the cases of sexual abuse in the Catholic Church, which became increasingly public from the mid-1990s when Pluto entered Sagittarius. Or with the abrupt bankruptcy, almost simultaneously with Pluto’s transit into Capricorn in 2008.
Pluto’s gradual transition into Aquarius will take place in three steps:
- Pluto in Capricorn until 3/23,2023
- Pluto first in Aquarius: 3/23,2023 to 6/11,2023
- Pluto back in Capricorn: 6/11,2023 to 1/21,2024
- Pluto again in Aquarius: 1/21,2024 to 9/2,2024
- Pluto back in Capricorn: 9/2,2024 to 11/19,2024
- Pluto finally in Aquarius: 11/19,2024 until 2043
The dark side of Pluto (unintegrated shadow) can be feel like a torture, manipulation of the masses through propaganda, genetic engineering or modifications, use of toxic substances with the goal of gaining power or control over the population, etc.
The positive side of Pluto manifests itself through physical, psychological or spiritual healing. In the healing process, the person removes toxins, whether physical, emotional or mental, accessing the power of natural healing and renewing their spirit.
Pluto being Scorpio’s ruling planet feels secure, strong at home in Aquarius ruled by Uranus which also feels at home in Scorpio. In Aquarius, Pluto will be surrounded by air element (the mind) and we can try to predict that its energy directed outward will dismantle structures and boundaries in order to make community connections, share information, and develop innovations or new technology. The Collective Mind will be triggered to transform in some way shape or form by this transit and it can be triggered by some difficult challenges or by the Spirit of the Collective embracing Evolution and Growth – the Higher Self Will which does not always align with our personal Will.
With Pluto entering Aquarius, we will need to develop or use existing traits such as: being more social, active, inspiring, encouraging connecting, supportive, collaborative. Aquarius energy is humanitarian in nature and being the sign that rules progress, technology and collective action, it is full of boundless ideas about what will improve the lives of others, and how shared efforts can make the world a better place. Pluto enters the playground of visionaries, inventors, and creators. But being an air sign, things exist primarily on the mental plane and when intense and transformative Pluto moves into Aquarius, the two inspire each other to bring change and manifest those great plans and visions we’ve been putting aside for too long for being too futuristic, too crazy, too out of this world, or simply way out of our comfort zone.
The Signs most impacted by this transit will be the Fixed Signs: Taurus, Leo, Scorpio & Aquarius. Also, Libra and Gemini will also feel the intense transit shift, Aquarius being their Air Counterpart.
