Chakra Healing Stones – Crown Chakra

The Crown Chakra, or Sahasrāra chakra in Sanskrit, is known as “the bridge to the cosmos.” It is the most spiritual in nature of all seven chakras. Located above the crown of the head, it acts as the individual’s center of spirit, enlightenment, wisdom, universal consciousness, and connection to higher guidance. In a sense, the crown chakra is our highest potential. It governs interaction & communication with the universe, one’s senses of inspiration & devotion, union with the higher self & the divine, and deeper understanding; simultaneously, it is responsible for a healthy spiritual life. To read about our previous article, Third Eye Chakra please visit: Chakra Healing Stones – Third Eye Chakra.

Some people like to think of the crown chakra as a kind of umbilical cord to the divine, whereby we as human beings are connected to the oneness of all things. Because of this direct connection, it is important that we do not conceptualize ourselves as being completely separated from the divine; instead, that greater universal force is merely a larger expansion of the same energy which makes us up, too.

The crown chakra allows for the experiences of unity and universal connectedness, as well as the integration of the whole. It has a masculine energy and is represented by the color violet, or sometimes white, while its symbol is a circle with one thousand petals. Elementally, it is associated with thought and silence, and its mantra is, “I know.”

Crown chakra color

The crown chakra is most commonly represented with the color white, although it can also be depicted as deep purple. The auric color of crown chakra energy can also be seen as gold, white, or clear light.

Crown chakra symbol

The crown chakra symbol is depicted as a violet thousand-petaled lotus flower. This thousand-petaled lotus symbol that is associated with the crown chakra is one that possesses transcendental meaning. It signifies beauty, renewal, and purity. It is the energy center of universal knowledge and spiritualism which connects you to the divine. The crown chakra influences the brain and the nervous system, as well as the emotions and the level of understanding and enlightenment. Considering the crown chakra is the energy center of transcendence and renewal, the lotus flower is symbolically appropriate.

The crown chakra symbol can’t be fully remarked upon without speaking more on its violet color. This color is deeply tied to psychic insight and to otherworldly knowledge. Even in fiction, psychic energy is often depicted as being purple in color. It is pervasive enough that even those who aren’t consciously aware of chakras and their powers seem to have a primal knowledge of the psychic meaning of this color.

You’ll find that those crystals that connect best to the crown chakra are often very striking in their violet or purple colors, but clear crystals are also often sought out for crown chakra work too. That’s because they are stones of clarity, and clear vision of the crown chakra is considered very important in welcoming the higher wisdom it can bring.

Some illustrations of the crown chakra symbol include an “Om” image sitting in the lotus’s center. In Hinduism, the Om symbolizes the Absolute, or all that was, is, and will be. According to ancient tradition, to understand the incomprehensible is not possible for the human mind. Therefore, depicting the absolute in one symbol makes it a lot easier.

Crown chakra location

The most commonly accepted location for the seventh chakra is at the top of the head or slightly above the head. It sits like a crown, radiating upwards, hence its name.

The Crown chakra is primarily associated to the pituitary gland, and secondarily to the pineal and the hypothalamus. The hypothalamus and pituitary gland work in pair to regulate the endocrine system.  Because of its location, the crown chakra is closely associated with the brain and the whole nervous system.

Note that energetically, the seventh chakra has a connection with the first chakra, as they both are at the extremities of the chakra system.

Behavioral characteristics of the Crown chakra

The Crown Chakra has much to do with your personal knowledge, power, and consciousness.

Therefore, it can be used to develop a person’s sense of self and make him or her more aware of their inner wisdom as well as their spiritual connection, giving them a higher sense of purpose.

The crown chakra is associated with the following psychological and behavioral characteristics:

  • Consciousness
  • Awareness of higher consciousness, wisdom, of what is sacred
  • Connection with the formless, the limitless
  • Realization, liberation from limiting patterns
  • Communion with higher states of consciousness
  • Ecstasy, bliss
  • Presence

The crown chakra is associated with the transcendence of our limitations, whether they are personal or bound to space and time. It is where the paradox becomes norm, where seemingly opposites are one. The quality of awareness that comes with the crown chakra is universal, transcendent.

As we are immersed in the energy of the crown chakra, we feel a state of blissful union with all that is, of spiritual ecstasy. This chakra allows access to the upmost clarity and enlightened wisdom.

Some describe this chakra as the gateway to the cosmic self or the divine self, to universal consciousness. It’s linked to the infinite, the universal.

When Blocked or Out of Balance

If the crown chakra is out of balance or plagued by stuck energy, a range of emotional cues can act as red flags pointing in the direction of the problem. Common indicators of trouble with the crown chakra include difficulty meditating, difficulty feeling connected, and spiritual disinterest, as well as boredom, feeling antsy with the mundane, not feeling connected to one’s purpose or wisdom, or desiring complete isolation. Perhaps the strongest signs of an unbalanced crown chakra are depression, apathy, and skepticism. Meanwhile, still others include stubbornness, excessive sarcasm, and narrow-mindedness.

One way to target the alignment of the crown chakra is through moving the body. Specific yoga asanas like headstands, for example, can be beneficial for moving energy through the crown region. Following along with a guided yoga routine such as this 7th Chakra Yoga Class, Crown Chakra Vin to Yin, or Crown Chakra Balancing Flow could be a great place to start. Even trying something as simple as lying upside down to get blood flow moving to the top of the head can help, so don’t worry that being a yoga novice will keep you from being able to align this chakra. Another common approach to aligning this chakra is Emotional Freedom Technique, more colloquially referred to as “tapping.”

There are plenty of non-physical tools to help balance the crown chakra, as well. One such tool is visualization, a form of meditation which controls the focus. For the crown chakra, imagine bright white or violet light pouring into the top of the head. Or, try a guided meditation designed for the crown chakra.

Here’s an example of a guided meditation that you can do while using one your your favorite crystals or if you want to be more potent and healing chose those that are specific to this Chakra:

One tip which is especially helpful for those finding it difficult to meditate is this: instead of being the mind, simply watch the mind. Additionally, consider using earplugs while meditating to achieve a few moments of true silence, which could be hugely helpful for the alignment of the crown chakra. Along the same vein, practice intentional stillness. Lastly, use vibrations of the verbalized seed syllable “om,” (pronounced with an “oh” vowel sound, not an “ah” vowel sound) to target the crown chakra.

Affirmations are another great way to bring the crown chakra into alignment. They can be used alone, in pairs or sets, or in conjunction with other activities like yoga and meditation. Perhaps the simplest way to employ them is to incorporate them into a daily routine in order to create consistent spiritual mindfulness. Some affirmations for the crown chakra could be:

  • I am connected to the Universe and to everything around me.
  • I am guided by something greater than myself.
  • I have access to wisdom and peace.
  • I honor my spirit and the divine within me.

For one thing, diffusing or applying essential oils like lavender and jasmine can be calming and soothing for the crown chakra, while oils like cedar wood, sandalwood, frankincense & myrrh can be stimulating.

While incorporating certain foods into the diet is a typical practice for the other six chakras in the system, the crown chakra requires something a bit different: fasting, which acts as a form of spiritual nourishment rather than bodily nourishment. A period of refraining from food provides a break from worrying about physical demands so that the entire focus may be devoted to one’s spirituality and higher consciousness. This should only be done under the guidance of a qualified medical professional.

The Best Crystals for Balancing Your Crown Chakra

Stones that help with the crown chakra assist in clearing any blockages related to spirit and enlightenment. As a chakra so connected with spirituality, white and clear crystals are used for addressing problems with this chakra.

Clear Quartz is a popular stone for clearing any negative energy that can be blocking your chakra. The Clear Quartz crystal properties are a reflection of the crystal’s aesthetic. With this crystal, it’s all about clarity, light, reflection, and amplification. The Clear Quartz crystal healing properties allow anyone connected to the stone to become as clear as their crystal. Whether you are manifesting, making decisions, or simply clearing out your mental inbox, a Clear Quartz crystal is an essential.

Diamonds are a powerful stone for this chakra in terms of releasing energy and bringing illumination. Diamond is a crystal of Light; its high frequency energy is dispersed into flashing prisms of brilliant “fire” that typifies the sun. It is a spiritual stone, a symbol of perfection and illumination, activating the Crown and Etheric Chakras. It enhances inner vision and stimulates creativity, imagination, and ingenuity, opening the mind to the “new” and “possible.” Placed on the Third Eye, a Diamond encourages psychic development, and is a valuable tool for remote viewing, telepathic communication and clairvoyance.

Purple stones are also connected with the crown chakra, with the most popular being Amethyst. The Amethyst crystal stone meaning purifies your energy field of unwanted energy so you can connect to your inner peace and leave the rest behind. Specifically, the Amethyst crystal healing properties are connected to your headspace, and work to sooth your mind of any worries, stress, or tension.

Other healing stones for the crown chakra include Apophyllite, Selenite, Lavender Quartz, and Sugilite.

Each chakra plays an important role in empowering us to be our best selves, and the crown chakra is no exception. Our connection to something greater allows us to approach our lives with purpose, divine inspiration, wonder, and a broader perspective. Further, aligned crown chakras can remind us all of our connectedness to each other and all things, encouraging us to live from a place of unity and lovingkindness — what a beautiful world we could create.

Crown Chakra Healing in 9 Steps

A crown chakra that is not balanced or aligned will make you feel out of sorts.

An overactive or underactive chakra will make you feel detached from the world and make you appear flighty to other people. Familiarizing yourself with the symptoms of a crown chakra imbalance is important for cleansing, balancing, and healing this specific energy center. Be on the lookout for psychological imbalances, split personalities, memory disorders, excessive gullibility, and nightmares. There will also be physical manifestations, such baldness, headaches, migraine, depression, delusions, or amnesia.

The crown chakra is complex because it’s your connection to the spiritual world and your innermost self. Fortunately, there are many ways that you can cleanse, balance, and heal your crown chakra.

  1. Meditate

Your crown chakra will be deeply influenced by meditation because it’s your connection to the higher power and to your higher self. Visualize a golden light illuminating the crown of your head, including that space just above it. Feel this glow recharge and illuminate both your body and spirit. Allow this soft but powerful light to reconnect you with the world, with your own authentic self, and with your own true light. Regularly meditating is very beneficial. If you only have a few minutes to meditate, just try to imagine a violet lotus flower on top of your head for a simple but effective crown chakra meditation.

  1. Leave your ego at the door

If you must know, ego and self-confidence are two entirely different things. Learning to release yourself from an ego-driven life will benefit you in so many ways, not the least of which is a healthy and balanced crown chakra. One thing that you should remember is that ego is usually fueled by insecurity. True confidence comes from acceptance and true knowledge of yourself.

  1. Serve

Help others for the sake of helping them, and you will be rewarded a hundredfold. Your crown chakra will also benefit from it. Reaching out and helping others will strengthen your connection to your world, which is one of the crown chakra’s main purpose.

  1. Choose love

You can’t fully love another person until you learn to love yourself. Loving yourself for who you truly are is the first step in accepting others. When you choose to love each time, you are also letting go of the tensions present in your other chakras.

  1. Pray

For many people, prayer is a very personal thing. It does not need to be foreign or formal. It can be as simple as setting your intentions in your yoga practice. Just close your eyes and allow your deeper voice to be your guide. Pray to find your innermost self, and to tap into the stillness that lies within you.

  1. Yoga Asanas

Most yoga asanas are beneficial to the crown chakra because of their meditative aspect. Slow practice that allows time for lots of focus on the breath is very good. It will not focus on pushing boundaries or striving to achieve challenging poses, but rather on working on mindfulness and meditation.

  1. Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy for the crown chakra includes a wide range of scents. You can use flowery essential oils, such as lavender, rose, and jasmine to soothe an overactive crown chakra. More pungent essential oils such as myrrh, frankincense, and sandalwood can be used to stimulate a blocked or underactive chakra.

  1. Spend some time out in the sun.

The crown chakra’s elements are light and thought, so spending time under the sun is beneficial for unblocking or balancing the crown chakra. Read books, solve crossword puzzles, or watch a though-provoking documentary while sitting out in the sun. It’s an easy way to heal this chakra.

  1. Reiki

Reiki is a beautiful and loving way to bring back the balance to your crown chakras. By using certain touch points on or around the body, the energy centers are cleared and re-structured and a new level of awareness is achieved.

Be well and loved, namaste!
